Giveaway: The World's Finest Par Threes Book

My good friends at ECW Press have issued a very cool golf book focused entirely on the world's great one-shot holes. Titled "Golf's Finest Par Threes," the book is a pretty amazing collection of photos of many of the world's great short holes, as well as including an intriguing series of lists (best links par threes, best long par threes, etc.).

ECW has given 3 off the Tee and Sympatico Sports the opportunitiy to give one of these away. If you're interested, add your name and email to the comments and provide at least one great par three that you've played. All entries must be in by April 22 and we'll have someone at Sympatico Sports draw the winner.

Here's what the promotional geniuses at ECW had to say about the book:

Golfers wanting to know the colorful stories behind names like Alcatraz, Biarritz, Cleopatra, Dell, Eden, Postage Stamp, and Redan can now turn to the first and only book ever devoted exclusively to the par-three hole. In Golf’s Finest Par Threes (ECW Press. April 15, 2011) award-winning golf photographer Tony Roberts and golf writer Michael Bartlett have assembled what they call a “an exemplary collection of the most spectacular, historic, challenging, and unusual one-shot holes on the planet.”

The heart of the book is the authors’ list of the 100 greatest par threes in the world, chosen from thousands they have visited during more than 30 years profiling and photographing golf courses. The book designates the holes as gold and silver, and they arranged by design and geographical categories such as links, island and peninsula, blind, drop shot, and more. Stunning full-color photography and fact-filled profiles combine to reveal the distinct character of each hole.

Golf’s Finest Par Threes also explains how the greatest course designers – notably, Macdonald, Colt, Tillinghast, MacKenzie, Ross, Thomas, Jones, Fazio, Nicklaus, Dye, and Doak – have created unique par threes. A closing section offers new perspectives on the one-shot hole: “Best Sets” and “Out-of-the-Box” threes, historic shots on par threes, and more. The book is fully indexed and will provide golfers with a beautifully packaged tour of the game’s greatest short holes guaranteed to inform, entertain, and invite discussion about what makes a par three superior and memorable.

Tony Roberts is a photographer who has contributed photos to every major golf magazine. He was the 1987 recipient of the USGA's Book of the Year Award for his photographs in Golf's Magnificent Challenge. Michael Bartlett is a freelance writer and journalism teacher. He is the author of Bartlett's World Golf Encyclopedia and The Golfer's Almanac and was the editor for the magazines Golf, Golf Canada, and Golf Journal. They both live in Scottsdale, Arizona.
